My three strategies on coping with life

Hey guys, so I promised to share some of my coping mechanisms. I decided to pick my best three due to the power of three’s.

  • Acceptance

Life is not a bed of roses. FACT. So why complain or focus all your energy on a known fact. Most of us or I can personalize it- I was tricked into adulthood. I always wanted to grow fast because I could not wait to live alone, have a job, buy anything I want to buy, eat whatever I like. And after I turned 19, I realize it was all a hoax. In as much as I like to think I will win a lottery someday, travel round the world, donate my organs or even get married to a wealthy billionaire. It is all a coping mechanism for me. I know you have to wake up and work your ass while the universe does its magic. It is okay to have unrealistic dreams if they make you feel better but make sure you don’t get lost in that Sisyphean world.

  • Order

For me, being orderly is very important with controlling stress. The bible has several chapters that support this fact

1 Cor 14:40: But all things should be done decently and in order

Proverbs 6: 6-8:Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest

Also,

Robin Hobb: He longed for cleanliness and tidiness: it was hard to find peace in the middle of disorder.”

Paul Meyer: Plan your progress carefully; hour-by hour, day-by-day, month-by-month. Organized activity and maintained enthusiasm are the wellsprings of your power Paul Meyer

I talk to a few people and they say they do well in disorganized environment but I usually wonder- Have you tried going about your business in a more organized manner for a period of time and see the difference. Gladly a family member of mine tried it out and told me her honest truth- She said just keeping her room tidy made her feel her life was in order and helped her think clearly. It’s all about the signal you send to your brain.

Challenge for you: Make sure your living environment is free from clutter and kept orderly. Take that extra seconds to put things in the right place even when you are in a hurry.

This brings me to the issue of procrastination- Never say tomorrow to what can be done today #Joan Ofulue- Wooa did I just create my original quote- YASSSSS. So, even if you know you can do something tomorrow, the moment you get the thought ENSURE you do it immediately- it takes discipline but it is possible. There is a reason your brain sent that AUTOSUGGESSTION signal. Don’t try to justify reasons why you can do it some other time. At least start and when you get to the conundrum you will cross it.

  • Support System

The best way to go through life is to have a great support system in family and friends. We all have problems and sometimes sharing your challenges or simply talking through someone elses’ issues is all the medicine you need for your prognosis. It is a blessing of friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.
