Notes about Love and Respect?

The book explains that in a romantic relationship a woman’s strongest desire is LOVE and that of a man is RESPECT. This is grounded in scriptures where Paul told the Ephesians that husbands must love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave his life and wives must respect their husbands.

My key take away are the following:

  • A woman thinks pink and a man thinks blue so never expect your partner to fulfil your desires as you wish.
  • A woman or man must love or respect their partner unconditionally. Infact to break the crazy circle a woman must respect her man even if he does not deserve to be respected.
  • A woman or man who respects and loves unconditionally is simple in obedience to God’s instructions. In addition, the expectation is that if the receiving partner is of good will, he will eventually respond to fulfil your desires.
  • A woman can be right but wrong at the top of her voice.
  • At the core of every man is someone who wants to protect and provide.
  • Men hear criticism as contempt and women feel silence as hostility.
  • Respect is man’s deepest value.
  • We easily see what is done to us before we see what we are doing to our mate.
  • His love motivates her respect; her respect motivates his love.
  • Always ask if what I am about to say or do going to feel unloving to her.
  • Always ask if what I am about to say or do going to feel disrespectful to him.
  • Women want Closeness, Openness, Understanding, Peacemaking, Loyalty, Esteem (COUPLE). Men want Conquest, Hierarchy, Authority, Insight, Relationship, Sexuality  (CHAIRS).
